Skyfin Asian Bistro

Looking for a very sophisticated yet casual place to dine in the Boca area? Welcome to Skyfin Sushi whose owner, Aden Lee, was a Sous Chef for many years at the famous “Mr. Chow” Restaurant in Miami Beach. Skyfin Sushi, open for the past year and a half, is noted for traditional Japanese and Chinese cuisine.

You can choose the spacious, breezy outside deck or enjoy the stunning interior designed with a contemporary look of neon crossed slats on the wall, ‘twisty’ contoured weaved-basket lighting fixtures and high-backed, comfy booths so perfect for quiet dining and private conversation.

The dishes are freshly prepared and presented to the table like colorful works of art. The Carpaccio makes a perfect appetizer, served with two slices each of Octopus, Salmon, YellowTail and Scallops. The variety and quality are top of the line, and the ponzu sauce with a touch of citrus yuzu and sea salt is just divine. The elongated serving dish is decorated with a full length strip of crushed ice from one end to the other, a few fresh pink flowers and a small tomato creatively hand-cut to look like a sweet little bunny with ears and eyes. It’s these detailed touches that make the presentations so unique and so outstanding.

Another wonderful appetizer is the tuna (or salmon) tartare. You’ve never seen a more colorful display than this, with the Tobiko (flying fish roe) as a topping, spread and sectioned into an array of four bursting colors of green, orange, black and red that create harmony and balance. They look (and taste) like marvelous caviars but with just a hint of kimchi sauce for a slight kick.

If you’re a seafood-lover, don’t miss the Sizzling Seafood dish filled with tempting favorites such as scallops, calamari and prawn. These bite-size gems are sauteed with healthy fresh vegetables including snow peas, mushrooms, onions, carrots and bell peppers in a delicious black bean sauce.

Also try the tasty and crispy Hand Rolls. These are swirled cones of seaweed (that you hold like an ice cream cone) and contain different fillings inside. Two standby favorites are Tuna and Salmon and some special standouts are Yellowtail Scallion Roll, Blue Crab Avocado and Lobster Roll. But new and fun rolls are the Sweet Heart Roll (served heart-shaped), Crazy Girl Roll (a must try) and Hot Sexy Mama (with jalapeno, as you might have guessed).

By far, the dazzling dish that will have you craving more and wanting to come back as soon as possible is the Steamed Sea Bass with Black Truffle Sauce. “Wow” doesn’t even cover how sensational this masterpiece is. Six delicate, white squares of Sea Bass are drizzled with an exquisite truffle sauce making it a true winner.

Owner Aden Lee and his wife, both from Hong Kong, have certainly created a winning combination of stunning decor and classic yet inventive Asian cuisine. They’ve also made sure that the distinctive and thoughtful privacy booths, soft lighting and background music create a romantic ambiance that makes for an upscale, impeccable and memorable evening escape.
