TRASHY MERMAIDS in Delray Beach Launch Monthly Shoreline Clean-up

Delray Beach resident Julie Travis was appalled by all the litter she found cluttering the shoreline on a recent visit and vowed to do something about it: “Keep The Sea Trash Free!”

She organized Trashy Mermaids, a group of dedicated female beach-cleaners that now has dozens of volunteers, that spends one Saturday each month picking up all kinds of debris (cigarette butts, bottle caps, food and wrappers, plastic containers, etc.

After successful beachside clean-ups on May 21 and June 5, the Trashy Mermaids are scheduled to bring their garbage-grabbers and rubbish buckets back to Delray Beach for two hours on Saturday, July 3, starting at 9 am.

To join in this fun and friendly effort to clean-up Delray’s beautiful shoreline, please contact Jeanne Epstein at or call 561.313.2611. For more information, check out the group’s Facebook page: Trashymermaidsdelraybeach.

“On the beach and in the sea, animals do not leave trash. Humans do. Please behave like animals.”
