Building a reputation of integrity, both in business and in the community, combined with impeccable service and superior quality products, is not an overnight endeavor. Co-owners Rick and Pat Howard have done so with perseverance and passion over a period of 15 years, and with the same energy they’ve brought since day one, their company continues to thrive. While celebrating a milestone anniversary this year, Sklar also looks ahead with excitement, positivity, and a continued commitment to excellence.

It all began in 2002 with a strategic vision which employed a business model that wasn’t just about retail nor design, but an ingenious hybrid of the two. The end result? A 23,000 square-foot, dynamic showroom where customization is at the very foundation of Sklar’s philosophy. To call it a furniture store would hardly do justice to Sklar’s truer identity: a full-service design center. As soon as you enter, you know you’ve stepped into something beyond an ordinary furniture showroom. If you’re looking for just one statement piece, sure, they can oblige. But customers would be remiss not to take advantage of the dedicated team of talented planners, who are ready to tailor a full package with all the necessary components— from flooring, to draperies, to lighting…and even the most advanced technologies. It’s a one-stop shop with special services. such as house calls to get personally-acquainted with your space, concierge delivery service, and even preparing your home while you’re up north so that when you arrive back south, there’s nothing to do but relax and enjoy your refreshed environment.

With so much to experience, browsing is encouraged, whether you choose to do so on-site, or from the comfort of home on Sklar’s website, which captures the essence of the brand by giving users a preview of the in-store experience complete with product features, testimonials, and user-friendly navigation regardless of what device you’re using. Both in-store and online, there is something new to discover on the daily. “Within minutes of new product arriving, Sklar transforms both in- house, and on the website,” Pat promises.

Whether it’s a palatial estate, a multi-floor public space, or even a spatially-challenged 1-bedroom apartment you’re looking to re- design, Sklar is at the ready. Its destination showroom is exploding with one-of-a-kind, multi-functional pieces to fit all shapes and sizes of residential and commercial environments. “Because of our broad range, we can also meet a client’s budget by matching product price points to their desires. We use our showroom to afford our clients the opportunity to find their style, and then guide them towards product that suits their budget,” says Rick.

Creativity is encouraged, and worries are to be left outside the front door. Put “out-dated” out of your mind. Firmly rooted at the edge of innovation, Sklar’s owners scour the globe for the nest industry offerings, which they in turn present to their valued client base. Sklar’s owners pride themselves on staying abreast of constantly changing style, inevitable in a creative industry, so everything they offer is contemporary, modern, and of-the-moment. “We are in the dream- selling business,” states Rick. “We can stand behind all the product we purchase because we’ve already assessed the quality to make sure it fulfills the elevated standards of our clients.”

As is usually the case, behind every success story is strong leadership. Sklar is a leader in the industry, winning three coveted ASID Design Excellence Awards this year alone. In 2014, Sklar Furnishings was recognized as the Boca Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Leader of the Year and additionally, was the only small business in the state of Florida that year to receive the Office Depot Leadership in Greener Purchasing Award. Other awards have included the 2017 Houzz Service Award, and the 2015 Best of Houzz-Interior Design.

Naturally, the Sklar team is proud of its garnered awards, but nothing moves them more than their commitment to sustain- ability. “We believe strongly in saving our beautiful planet by being good stewards for the environment,” says Rick. “We practice green by constantly looking to reduce our carbon footprint—be it lighting, roofing, air conditioning or recycling. We believe in purchasing from vendors who also practice environmentally-sound practices.” Sklar Furnishings has been a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council since its inception, and for every wood furniture purchase, Sklar donates a tree to be planted in a Florida forest.

15 years of success in business, 15 years of environmental-consciousness…15 is a magic number for Sklar. In anticipation of their 15th anniversary, to be held on—you guessed it—November 15th, Sklar is not only sponsoring the building of homes for low income families through Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County (for which Rick serves as Chairman of the Board), but is promoting the missions of 15 important nonprofits, among them the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association, and Boca Helping Hands. As Rick so eloquently explains, “We have been blessed by success in our community, and we know that there are many opportunities to give back to the local not for profits that help so many people in need in our immediate area. We know that if we all pitch in life will be elevated in our beautiful town.” Happy 15th anniversary Sklar, and here’s to 15 more prosperous and meaningful years!
